![]() All around a very strong show from a developer I wasn't familiar with before. Very philosophical and intriguing story that I enjoyed all way through. Game 4: The Talos Principle - February 15 That said I didn't like how they tried to make the game artificially longer. Surprising, fun to play and all around polished. Game 3: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker - January 19 Just the right lenght for the story it's telling. # Refresingly innocent and beautifully presented. Game 2: Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale - January 5 Gameplay has some problems (mainly companion AI and some clumsy parts) but still manages to be passable. I really like when games teach you something interesting. That's a multi-billion dollar rover, powered by a CPU that could barely run Word 98.Game 1: Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) - January 1 Perseverance uses a PowerPC out of a late 90's iMac. So what was probably an older chip at the start of the project, is now ancient by launch day. In all that planning time, the hardware everything is built around doesn't change. These projects also take years, sometimes upwards of a decade to get off the ground. Finding a chip that can take that kind of abuse is far more of a priority. You'd think they would have the top level gear in a scientific research platform, right? Problem is, these things gotta go into space, so they're subjected to high G forces, hard vacuum, extremes of temperature, and radiation. Take a rover or deep space probe for instance. If something is built to do one kind of calculation, or one type of task, it can usually run on relatively low power chips. When you strip away advanced GUI's and flashy graphics, you often don't need a ton of processing power. ![]() ![]() Stability is usually more of a concern than bleeding edge performance. It's built to be bulletproof (sometime literally). The irony of military tech is that it's usually not very "high tech". It's not any one thing, but mining is definitely on of the many factors at play. ![]()
